Jennifer is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern with the state of Florida. She earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida. Jennifer began her professional experience working in the hotel industry, ensuring her guests and groups had positive experiences by demonstrating effective communication skills and developing and maintaining strong relationships. She then earned her Professional Certification in Elementary Education and taught in the classroom for 10 years. During that time, she focused on creating a risk-free environment for learning, meeting the unique social and academic needs of each child, helping students build positive self-concepts, guiding and supporting families, and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships with her colleagues. Jennifer’s experience in a therapeutic setting include working as a Pychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor to help clients develop and maintain independent life skills and strategies. She also gained valuable experience interning at Children’s Home Society working with adolescents and families and interning at Pittington Counseling Services working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the Mental Health Counselors of Central Florida.
Jennifer feels that her personal, educational, and professional life experiences have allowed her the opportunity to gain critical knowledge and help people in many aspects, providing her with a foundation of patience, love, understanding, and compassion. She enjoys working with people of all ages who are experiencing issues surrounding anxiety, interpersonal relationships, social issues, school problems, and anger management.
Jennifer believes that meeting the client in her or his context is key. Through empathy, she strives to gain a thorough understanding of each client’s unique perspective and views each counseling relationship as a collaborative endeavor. She uses various techniques and strategies to encourage a sense of self-value, self-efficacy, and empowerment while upholding and respecting clients’ individual values in order to achieve desired goals and to reach their fullest potential.
