Althea Whittaker is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in the State of Florida who has earned her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling. While trained in a variety of treatment modality, Althea tailors her counseling style to meet each individual client's preference and goals, and uses evidence-based interventions to address the specific concerns that brings a client into counseling. She incorporates a strengths-based, client-centered focus that seeks to enhance the client’s level of motivation for personal growth and change while creating a warm, safe, and supportive therapeutic environment. Althea has provided mental health, trauma, and addictions-related counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, and elders in a variety of inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. In addition to her clinical experience, she has created curriculums and facilitated groups for children and adult sexual abuse survivors and also groups for children and adolescents that are on the Autistic spectrum. Her areas of expertise include trauma, grief, anxiety and mood disorders, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse problems, parenting, relationship/family concerns, anger management, autism, and attention deficit disorder.
